American Gunfight
|
|
American Gunfight : The Plot to Kill Harry
Truman--and the Shoot-out that Stopped It.
Stephen Hunter, J. S. Bainbridge
On November 1, 1950, two Puerto Rican nationalists,
Oscar Collazo and Griselio Torresola, engaged
in a sustained gun battle with Secret Service
agents at Blair House. Their goal was to
assassinate President Harry Truman. It's
curious that the two men haven't found a
place in popular memory like other presidential
assailants. But this attempt deserves attention
because it was explicitly political and because
it permanently altered Secret Service practices...
interpretations are presented as such, and
their handling of the recorded events is
not only convincing but compelling. |

Puerto Rico 1900 : Turn-Of-The-Century Architecture
in the Hispanic Caribbean 1890-1930
Por Jorge Rigau
In this insighful book the author present
us with other aspects, sometimes forgotten,
of the vernacular architecture of Puerto
Rico. Looking at the nature of why buildings
were constructed in certain ways in Ponce,
Mayaguez, San German, etc. Also, it helps
to explain the transformation of the Puerto
Rican society from an economic (agrarian
to industrial) and political (Spanish colony
to US territory) perspective and how these
influences resulted in an unique architectural
style. Puerto Rico 1900 is a wonderful resource
for those interested in knowing more about
this issue.
